What is the GI structure weight per sq. meter?
This is a question based on the European structural concept of greenhouses. BK Greenhouses is different in the way that it aims to be as light as possible yet strong enough for snow depth, wind velocity, equipment attachments and plant hangings.
BK structures are constructed with quality materials with the right degree of tension and galvanization.
BK also uses no welded joints and no joints at the top of bows, which creates excellent resistance to typhoons and cyclones. Success is evident in Mauritius where BK Greenhouses currently has 85% market share. BK structures and plastic coverings have repeatedly endured Mauritian cyclonic conditions.
The BK approach is to keep costs down by minimizing shading area while still maintaining structural strength. Structures offer ample strength and stability for workers to climb on roofs for easier maintenance and installation.
Is the nominal arch size 1 meter too small?
It is common for greenhouses with thicker pipes to use bow spacing of 2, 3 or even 4 meters wide. In such cases, rust-prone wires are used to horizontally hold in the plastic coverings using only few purlins.
BK advises against larger spacing because of the soft nature of plastic PE. Without adequate grip, wind can cause PE to flap and tear out of edges.
BK's solution is to use larger quantities of bows and purlins all the way down to the ground with 1 meter spacing. This minimizes flapping and increases the longevity of coverings.
What is the hanging load?
The maximum plant load capacity is 300 kg/sq.m and safety loading is 200 kg/sq.m. These are strong enough for even vertical growings of watermelons.
BK plant hangings easily carry the weight of tomatoes, bell peppers, cucumbers and melons with maximum growing densities.
In addition, BK Greenhouses are designed in such a way that there is no need for separate plant hanging structures. Existing horizontal tie-beams are utilized for plant hangings.
